Raikes Foundation Helps Bring Geelong Project to King County, WA

The Geelong Project is an early intervention model developed in Australia that has demonstrated success in keeping students in school and off of the streets when they are found to be at risk for homelessness. The Tukwila School District plans to launch a pilot later this year and it is hoped that other King County schools will follow suit.

The model involves surveying students at the beginning of the school year to help identify those who may be at risk of homelessness. Rather than waiting until a family is in a full-blown crisis to provide support, the Geelong Project gets families the help they need before their situation gets to a crisis point.

Learn more about the model, early outcomes it has shown and how King County compares to the Greater Geelong region in this Seattle Times multimedia deep dive featured on their front page earlier this month.
